Plan the survey around normal operation

Complete the infrared inspection
During the visit, the engineer uses thermal imaging equipment to inspect accessible components included within the survey. This may involve reviewing distribution boards, protective devices, cable terminations, control equipment and other suitable electrical assemblies. Temperature patterns are assessed for inconsistencies or areas that appear unusual when compared with surrounding components. The inspection is completed without direct contact with energised components. However, safe access and removal of covers may still need to be managed in accordance with site conditions and the design of the equipment. Any areas that cannot be accessed or inspected safely are recorded as limitations within the survey.

Report findings and arrange further investigation
Following the inspection, FELCO records the relevant observations and thermal images from the survey. This may involve tightening a connection, assessing circuit loading, replacing a component or carrying out further electrical testing.
